在彌賽亞信仰中，西方稱(chēng)呼救世主為“Messiah”，意思是“受膏者”，也就是“彌賽亞”?！癕essiah”后來(lái)隨著(zhù)宗教的發(fā)展，傳到了古印度，演變成梵文中的“Maitreya”和巴利語(yǔ)中的“Metteya”，也就是“彌勒”。

“彌勒”是音譯，但“Maitreya” 似乎和我們漢語(yǔ)中“彌勒”的發(fā)音相差太遠，唐玄奘法師就曾經(jīng)說(shuō)過(guò)譯錯了，應該翻譯成“梅但利耶”，但“彌勒”已經(jīng)深入人心，約定俗成，所以，人們還是稱(chēng)呼這位尊敬的未來(lái)佛，未來(lái)的救世主為“彌勒”。

隨著(zhù)佛教的發(fā)展，“Maitreya”傳至古代新疆，演變?yōu)楫數赝禄鹆_語(yǔ)中 的“mila”，這就和我們現在漢語(yǔ)中的“彌勒”發(fā)音很相近了。

解決了蜜蠟的發(fā)音來(lái)源，再來(lái)說(shuō)說(shuō)為什么不透明的琥珀被稱(chēng)為蜜蠟，這個(gè)我個(gè)人更傾向于是商家為了抬高蜜蠟的地位，所以單獨將不透明的琥珀和透明的琥珀區分開(kāi)來(lái)，并給它命名蜜蠟。
