Yearbook（年鑒）是一種匯集了各種信息、數據和故事的書(shū)籍，通常每年出版一次。它主要記錄了過(guò)去一年內的重大事件、社會(huì )現象、科技發(fā)展、文化變遷等內容，以供讀者查閱和參考。

年鑒通常以一種編年體的形式來(lái)呈現，這意味著(zhù)它按照時(shí)間順序記錄了過(guò)去一年的各種信息。此外，年鑒還會(huì )包括一些分析、評論和預測，以便讀者更好地了解過(guò)去、現在和未來(lái)。

什么是檔案年鑒

年鑒是人類(lèi)記錄自己在勞動(dòng)實(shí)踐中取得的系統的知識，特別是從地球角度年復一年、周而復始地觀(guān)察天體運動(dòng)而取得的天文知識的最早出版物。年鑒的編纂始于歐洲。英國哲學(xué)家培根在其1267年出版的《大著(zhù)作》中已使用外國年鑒中有關(guān)天體運動(dòng)的材料，這說(shuō)明至少在13世紀中葉歐洲已有類(lèi)似年鑒的出版物。當時(shí)歐洲一部頗有影響的年鑒是由德國數學(xué)家、天文學(xué)家雷格蒙塔努斯(1436～1476)于1457年編纂出版的，主要記載時(shí)令節氣、天文氣象等。 以后， 德、英、法、意、美等國曾出版了數以千計的各類(lèi)年鑒，著(zhù)名的如《世界年鑒》、 《咨詢(xún)年鑒》、《惠特克年鑒》和《政治家年鑒》等。

在西文各類(lèi)年鑒中，冠以yearbook的為數較多， 一般既有文字敘述， 也有統計資料，如《聯(lián)合國年鑒》； Almanac一詞源于中世紀的阿拉伯語(yǔ)，在英語(yǔ)中被賦予日歷、歷書(shū)的含義,稱(chēng)almanac的則以統計資料見(jiàn)長(cháng)，如《讀者文摘年鑒》； 稱(chēng)annual 的一般以文字敘述為主，如《外科年鑒》。各類(lèi)年鑒的編纂方式雖各有側重，但稱(chēng)謂時(shí)有混用，區分并不嚴格。 到18世紀，其內容轉為包含豐富知識的工具書(shū)。1732年由美國文學(xué)家B.富蘭克林主編的《窮理查歷書(shū)》比較著(zhù)名。

年鑒是以全面、系統、準確地記述上年度事物運動(dòng)、發(fā)展狀況為主要內容的資料性工具書(shū)。匯輯一年內的重要時(shí)事、文獻和統計資料，按年度連續出版的工具書(shū)。它博采眾長(cháng)，集辭典、手冊、年表、圖錄、書(shū)目、索引、文摘、表譜、統計資料、指南、便覽于一身，具有資料權威、反應及時(shí)、連續出版、功能齊全的特點(diǎn)。屬信息密集型工具書(shū)，具有資料翔實(shí)、反映及時(shí)、連續出版等特點(diǎn)。主要作用是向人們提供一年內全面、真實(shí)、系統的事實(shí)資料，便于了解事物現狀和研究發(fā)展趨勢。它所收集的材料主要來(lái)源于當年的政府公報、國家重要報刊的報道和統計部門(mén)的數據。因此，年鑒有較大的總結、統計意義和比較系統的連續參考作用。通過(guò)年鑒，可查找近年來(lái)國際國內時(shí)事，各部門(mén)各行業(yè)的進(jìn)展及各學(xué)科各專(zhuān)業(yè)的研究動(dòng)態(tài)；可查找政府頒布的重要法規文獻和逐年可比的統計數據資料；還可以查找“機構簡(jiǎn)介”“企業(yè)名錄”及著(zhù)名人物的生平及一些實(shí)用的指南性資料等。

年鑒主要是由編纂單位根據選題計劃組織眾多作者撰寫(xiě)的，少量?jì)热輥?lái)源于當年的政府公報、其他重要文獻和統計部門(mén)提供的數據。在選材上，它要求系統全面、客觀(guān)正確以及濃縮精煉。在編纂結構上，要求布局合理，基本框架穩定，其常設的欄目有：文獻 (包括文件和法規)、概況、文選和文摘、大事記、論爭集要、統計資料、人物志、機構簡(jiǎn)介、附錄等。

年鑒大體可分為綜合性年鑒和專(zhuān)業(yè)性年鑒兩大類(lèi)，前者如百科年鑒、統計年鑒等；后者如經(jīng)濟年鑒、歷史年鑒、文藝年鑒、出版年鑒等。

我國的年鑒已有六百多年的歷史。成書(shū)于14世紀40年代的《宋史·藝文志》中，就有《年鑒》一卷，可惜已經(jīng)失傳。

解放前我國曾陸續出版過(guò)一些綜合性年鑒(如《中國年鑒》、《世界年鑒》、《申報年鑒》)、地方年鑒(如《上海市年鑒》、《臺灣年鑒》)專(zhuān)業(yè)性年鑒(如《中國經(jīng)濟年鑒》、《中國**年鑒》)。其中《中國年鑒》于1924年由商務(wù)印書(shū)館出版，是當代出版史上一部綜合性年鑒。

我國年鑒出版工作大發(fā)展是在80年代。1980年首先破土而出的是《中國百科年鑒》、《中國出版年鑒》和《世界經(jīng)濟年鑒》等。到1981年，就出現了“年鑒熱”，年鑒品種猛增到二十多種。
