子午線(xiàn)通過(guò)の一種。観測地點(diǎn)における子午線(xiàn)は，天の北極，天頂，天の南極を通る天球上の大円であるが，そのうちの天の北極から天頂を経て天の南極に至る半円部分を，日周運動(dòng)によって，天體が東から西へ通過(guò)するときのこと。極上正中，あるいは単に正中とも呼ぶ。これに対して，子午線(xiàn)の殘りの半円部分を天體が西から東へ通過(guò)するときのことを北中，あるいは極下正中という。これらの現象を観測することは，位置天文學(xué)の基礎をなす重要な分野である。
