(二) 性指數的作用

果蠅雖然是XY型的動(dòng)物，但Y染色體并不起作用，而是取決于性指數。性指數決定性別的機制是建立于卵巢和早期合子中合成的基因產(chǎn)物的互作。這些基因分為三類(lèi)，即母體效應基因，其中da,her(hermaphrodite兩性的)為正調控因子，emc, gro(groucho喜怒的)為負調控因子。合子中表達的X-染色體上的基因和常染色體上的基因，它們的產(chǎn)物相互作用，為Sx1的激活提供信號。目前已搞清了其中一部分細節。

分子基因編碼蛋白產(chǎn)生得越多，那么由它們形成的激活二聚體的水平了越高。在雌果蠅（X:A=1.0）中有足夠的激活二聚體去打開(kāi)Sxl基因，而在雄果蠅中（X:A=0.5）轉錄因子的濃度就不足以激活開(kāi)關(guān)基因Sxl。分母基因的產(chǎn)物和起負調控的Emc可能與母體效應基因產(chǎn)物，與分子基因產(chǎn)物形成沒(méi)有功能的二聚體。

(三) Sxl基因是主開(kāi)關(guān)

在果蠅囊胚形成前或形成時(shí)，通過(guò)對性指數的計量決定是否打開(kāi)Sx1基因。Sx1基因是性別決定的總開(kāi)關(guān)，它能永遠保持在“開(kāi)”和“關(guān)”的狀態(tài)。當X:A轉錄因子濃度達到一定時(shí)（X:A=1.0），Sxl基因處在“開(kāi)”的狀態(tài)。而在雄體中X:A=0.5轉錄因子未能達到一定的域值，Sx1基因處于關(guān)閉狀態(tài)。

(The scene on TV has changed to show two women, one is holding her hair.)

(She is pushed down the stairs and everyone cheers.)
