cis是一種現代企業(yè)經(jīng)營(yíng)戰略，它并非一蹴而就，它經(jīng)歷了一個(gè)從ci到cis的演進(jìn)過(guò)程。ci（corporate identity）意即企業(yè)識別，其最初只是一種統一企業(yè)視覺(jué)識別，提高企業(yè)產(chǎn)品知名度，進(jìn)而達到擴大銷(xiāo)售目地的手段。ci的出現，是工業(yè)時(shí)代企業(yè)的大量涌現，以及相應的激列市場(chǎng)競爭的結果。早在20世紀初，意大利企業(yè)家密羅·奧利威蒂在伊布里亞開(kāi)設工廠(chǎng)生產(chǎn)打字機，為了提高自己產(chǎn)品的競爭力，他一方面重視企業(yè)標識的設計，并使其商標不斷完善，另一方面他還開(kāi)設了托兒所，以此舉提升企業(yè)形象。1914年，德國著(zhù)名建筑學(xué)家比德貝漢斯受聘為德國aeg電器公司的設計顧問(wèn)，并為其進(jìn)行了統一的商標，包裝，便條紙和信封設計，這為統一企業(yè)視覺(jué)起到了積極作用。

以上這些商標，標識統一設計雖還不能視為嚴格意義上的ci設計，但卻可以看作ci視覺(jué)識別的雛形。
