論文寫(xiě)作中的冠詞用法，與公共英語(yǔ)寫(xiě)作中的冠詞用法是一致的。最核心的規律是：

泛指可數名詞單數用不定冠詞，

泛指不可數名詞或可數名詞復數不用冠詞，

特指名詞（尤其是獨一無(wú)二的事物、由多個(gè)普通單詞組成的專(zhuān)有名詞）一律用定冠詞。

評論里面有同學(xué)提問(wèn)什么是泛指什么是特指。那我就在這里簡(jiǎn)單解釋一下。

泛指，意思是說(shuō)，有很多同樣的東西，但是我也不清楚具體說(shuō)的是哪一個(gè)，所以就隨便說(shuō)一個(gè)。舉個(gè)例子，我請你吃蘋(píng)果，我對你說(shuō)：隨便拿一個(gè)蘋(píng)果吃吧。我也不知道你要拿哪一個(gè)。這個(gè)情況就是泛指。

特指，有兩層意思。一是有很多同樣的東西，但我就說(shuō)這一個(gè)。比方說(shuō)，我請你吃蘋(píng)果，我拿起一個(gè)蘋(píng)果給你，說(shuō)：吃這個(gè)蘋(píng)果吧，又紅又甜。這個(gè)情況是特指。另外一層意思，是說(shuō)獨一無(wú)二的事物。比方說(shuō)太陽(yáng)，月亮，地球，中華人民共和國，美利堅合眾國。

一般來(lái)說(shuō)，當我們在論文當中，第一次提到一個(gè)概念或者一個(gè)事物的時(shí)候，只要它是可數的，就要在前面加不定冠詞a。以后，只要再提到它，就要在前面加定冠詞the。

比方說(shuō)，前文提到 A drug was developed to treat cardiovascular diseases...我也沒(méi)有具體指明這是啥藥物，所以呢，只能在這兒用泛指，前面加上一個(gè)不定冠詞a。

下一段我又提到這個(gè)藥物了 It is found that the drug cannot effectively improve coronary blood flow, but can specificially expand the penile cavernous artery. 所以要在藥物前面加the。

coronary blood flow (冠狀動(dòng)脈血流)是短語(yǔ)，中心語(yǔ)flow是不可數名詞，沒(méi)有具體提到哪一個(gè)人的冠狀動(dòng)脈血流，所以在這兒是泛指，不能加冠詞。

penile cavernous artery (**海綿體動(dòng)脈)是短語(yǔ)，中心語(yǔ)artery是可數名詞，所以這個(gè)短語(yǔ)前面，要么加不定冠詞，要么加定冠詞。前文有specificially(特異性地)，暗示這種藥物就是能擴張**海綿體動(dòng)脈，所以此處的**海綿體動(dòng)脈是特指，必須加定冠詞the?？吹竭@里學(xué)醫的同學(xué)就都反應過(guò)來(lái)了：這種藥物是大名鼎鼎的西地那非(sildenafil)，商品名萬(wàn)艾可(Viagra)。

具體情況可以參閱英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)法書(shū)。

不過(guò)對于一些學(xué)術(shù)詞匯，該如何加冠詞，一般的英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)法書(shū)不會(huì )講。我以前看過(guò)一些中國人寫(xiě)的論文寫(xiě)作教程，長(cháng)了不少經(jīng)驗，不過(guò)現在忘了不少，只能憑記憶寫(xiě)一些我確定有把握的。建議題主參閱中國人用漢語(yǔ)寫(xiě)的學(xué)術(shù)論文寫(xiě)作教程。

物質(zhì)名稱(chēng)（無(wú)論是系統命名、通俗命名、藥物命名）都不加冠詞，而且也不可數。例如：methane，ethanol，ethyl acetate，penicillin。 但是如果物質(zhì)名稱(chēng)用作定語(yǔ)修飾某個(gè)中心語(yǔ)，那么多半要在前面加the，如the methane molecule。

人名命名的定律、公式不加冠詞。例如Newton's first law，Euler's formula，Mendel's law。但是有機化學(xué)中的人名反應卻要加冠詞。例如the Reformatsky reaction。

特指公式中的某個(gè)字母，不加冠詞，例如：The formula of Newton's second law is a = F/m, where a is accleration, F is external force, m is mass.

公司、組織機構、科研基金的簡(jiǎn)稱(chēng)不加the，全稱(chēng)要加the，例如：Microsoft和the Microsoft Corporation，NCBI和The National Center for Biotechnology Information，NSF和the National Science Foundation (of China)。

大學(xué)則不同，無(wú)論全稱(chēng)簡(jiǎn)稱(chēng)都不加the，例如我的母校China Pharmaceutical University (CPU)。有些學(xué)校共享同一個(gè)校名，例如北京的清華大學(xué)和新竹的清華大學(xué)，也不能加the，只能在后面加上城市作為區分。

報刊雜志的標題，無(wú)論全稱(chēng)還是簡(jiǎn)稱(chēng)，前面不加the，例如：Nature，Science，Journal of the American Chemical Society，當然，有些報刊雜志標題里面本身就有the，不要混淆，例如The New York Times。
