魔方，又叫魯比克方塊，最早是由匈牙利布達佩斯建筑學(xué)院厄爾諾·魯比克教授于1974年發(fā)明的機械益智玩具。魔方擁有競速、盲擰、單擰等多種玩法，風(fēng)靡程度至今未衰，每年都會(huì )舉辦大小賽事，是最受歡迎的智力游戲之一。

魯比克·艾爾諾是匈牙利的建筑學(xué)和雕塑學(xué)教授，為了幫助學(xué)生們認識空間立方體的組成和結構，所以他自己動(dòng)手做出了第一個(gè)魔方的雛形，其靈感來(lái)自多瑙河中的沙礫。

1974年，魯比克教授發(fā)明了第一個(gè)魔方（當時(shí)稱(chēng)作Magic Cube），并在1975年獲得匈牙利專(zhuān)利號HU170062，但沒(méi)有申請國際專(zhuān)利。第一批魔方于1977年在布達佩斯的玩具店販售。與Nichols的魔方不同，魯比克教授的零件是像卡榫一般互相咬合在一起，不容易因為外力而分開(kāi)，而且可以以任何材質(zhì)制作。

N階：階數是指魔方主體部分兩個(gè)相鄰旋轉面所共有的塊數，比如三階魔方每個(gè)邊有3個(gè)小塊，金字塔魔方兩個(gè)相鄰旋轉面共有5個(gè)塊，但主體部分只共有3個(gè)塊，所以也是三階。

復原：指魔方從非原始狀態(tài)到原始狀態(tài)的過(guò)程。

SUB：原文是“Subtraction”，意思就是“減、少于”的意思，在這里是“在XX秒以下”的意思。例：3×3方塊SUB30，就是指平均速度在30秒以下。計算方法為5次計時(shí)還原后去掉最快、最慢兩次成績(jì)并取平均值。

DNS：“Did Not Start”的簡(jiǎn)稱(chēng)，指放棄了一次復原機會(huì )，沒(méi)有開(kāi)始復原，即開(kāi)始前棄權。

DNF：“Did Not Finish”的縮寫(xiě)。指的是參賽者感覺(jué)自己無(wú)法在滿(mǎn)意的時(shí)間內完成魔方而宣布棄權，或按下計時(shí)器時(shí)魔方未能復原。在五次去尾計平均的比賽中只可以有一次DNF（算作最差成績(jì)），如有兩次以上DNF，則該項目平均成績(jì)?yōu)镈NF。
